Korbut: Monitoring of local government-citizens interaction needs to be systemic
The examination into the cooperation of local level authorities and citizens should be system-based, BelTA learnt from Nikolai Korbut, Head of the Property Management Directorate of the President of the Republic of Belarus, who received people at the administration building of the Grodno-based tobacco factory Neman during the third phase of monitoring the interaction of local authorities and citizens. Nikolai Korbut received 17 citizens. Among the problems raised were issues pertaining to housing and utilities services, improvement of living environment in towns, transport and possibilities to appeal against court decisions. Some of the issues were settled at once. The rest have been placed under scrutiny. According to Nikolai Korbut, such monitoring is an efficient method to promote cooperation between the local authorities and citizens. The Head of the Property Management Directorate of the President of the Republic of Belarus assured that his representatives would conduct similar meetings with people in every oblast district within a week or two. Nikolai Korbut also spoke with the town and oblast authorities, got familiar with the work of the Grodno tobacco factory Neman. The accent was put on social and manufacturing problems of the factory. Nikolai Korbut noted that such issues are settled in time, the company’s workers are socially and financially protected. Today the average wage at the factory reaches Br2 million. The third phase of monitoring the interaction of local authorities with population is underway in Grodno Oblast. A ministerial task group of the Presidential Administration is working in Oshmyany and Ostrovets districts. The regional office of the Belaya Rus civic organization has also held an extra reception of citizens in Ostrovets and Svisloch.
