Unemployment at 1% in Grodno Oblast
In January-June 2010 the rate of registered unemployment in Grodno Oblast decreased by 0.1% to 1% of the economically active population, BelTA learnt from the labor, employment and social policy committee of the Grodno oblast executive committee.
At the end of June 2010 there were 5,300 unemployed in Grodno Oblast, which is 3.3% down as against June 2009. The Mosty, Slonim and Smorgon districts have the jobless rate higher than the regional one (1.3%). In the first half of the year 24,500 people applied to the state employment assistance services. 14,700 people were recognized as unemployed, or 59.9% of the applicants. During this period 16,500 were placed into jobs, including 10,000 unemployed (60.8% of all those who found jobs).
In January-June 2010, 6,300 people were involved in public works, of whom 4,100 were unemployed.
To date, one job application filed with the state employment services accounts for one unemployed. Since the beginning of the year state social guarantees worth almost Br1.4 billion were provided to 9,900 people who applied to the state employment services. The average benefit amounted to Br46,600 in June 2010.
