Zelva hosts Annenski Kirmash Fair

The renewed Annenski Kirmash Fair in the town of Zelva (Grodno Oblast) gathered around 6,000 participants and guests, BelTA learned from the organizing committee of the fair. The Annenski Kirmash named after Saint Anna in the 18th century was one of the biggest and famous European fairs. In due time over five thousand merchants visited the Zelva fair which operated for a month. They brought horses, tobacco, spices, clothes, footwear and artware from various countries including Greece, Turkey and Persia. The fair was renewed on the initiative of the Zelva regional authorities under the auspices of the EU/UNDP project, Sustainable Development at the Regional Level. In line with the EU/UNDP project, the organizing committee received a grant to hold the fair and professional assistance. According to the organizers, the Annenski Kirmash is expected to be held annually.
